Middlesex University Business School

Destination Learning worked closely with the Marketing lecturers from the Business School to organise thier week long residential in Liverpool during November for thier October in-take of students.

The week long residential programme attracted 107 students and lecturers. Destination Learning worked very closely in the months preceding the trip with the Marketing Department's principal lecturers Sukhbinder Barn and Mark Macpherson to ensure that the logsitics ran smoothly and that the core educational objectives of the residential were delivered in the destination.

The group travelled to Liverpool by train on the Virgin Pendilino service from London Euston taking just under 2 hours and 10 minutes to reach Liverpool from London. The Group stayed in two 4 star city centre hotels, The Marriott and Holiday Inn City Centre, both which provided free internet access to the students.

The group was culturally and ethnically diverse in its make-up with students from China, Thailand, India, Norway, Sweden, Saudi Arabia. Egypy and Greece attending. The students had a fully packed programme - begining with a team building event at the world famous Cavern Club on Sunday afternoon which resulted in them all getting onto its famous stage for a sing song.

During the week Guest Speakers from the region's inward investment and marketing agency, The Mersey Partnership together with Mersey Ferries, Port Sunlight Village Trust, Liverpool Football Club and Glow New Media gave insighful and informative talks to the students. The underpinning theme was how Liverpool as a city and a region and its private sector partners had marketed itself on the world stage. The students enjoyed the sessions and asked plenty of searching questions.

At the end of the week the students were allocated one of the companies that had been featured on the speaker programme during the week and were assigned a case study as one of thier core course models. During the evenings the students had plenty of time to explore the city's nightlife and cultural offer.

Sukhbinder Barn, Senior Marketing Lecturer commented,

" Our students had a fantastic educational experience in Liverpool. Destination Learning delivered on all our educational objectives for the week. We were keen that the residential programme created an environment for the students and lecturers to bond as a year group, whilst providing a private sector, industry led perspective to our marketing curriculum. We also wanted our students the majority who are from overseas to have an experience of the UK outside of London. Destination Learning delivered on every front".
